Namrata Shelar, a commerce graduate, has always wanted to utilise her skills to empower rural women who face challenges in gaining access to education and a stable livelihood source. Apart from running a CSC, Namrata also ran a handloom business, taking orders and selling products to friends and family for supplementary income.

She attended the Digital Beti training in June 2020 and was able to appreciate the impact of digital marketing techniques that she was exposed to. This led her to take her handloom business online to expand her reach and consumer base.

Namrata created an online storefront for her handloom business on Facebook and began listing and selling her products online. She also encouraged people to connect with her through her page using Messenger or WhatsApp. As a result of this, Namrata has received a positive response to her Facebook Page for her handloom business. From receiving merely a handful of orders at a time, she now receives around 5 orders per day through her Facebook Page alone, resulting in a boost in her income. Moreover, through her knowledge of online safety and privacy on Facebook, she was able to garner the support of her family for her entrepreneurship journey.

A lecturer by profession, Vandana is defined by her passion to help others and serve the community. Her passion for helping others compels her to do something more to serve the community. She noticed how people around her were having a hard time access general services like banking, bill recharge, etc. Though some people had access to smartphones, they were still unaware about the gamut of activities that could be done with these phones.

This motivated her to run her own Common Service Centre in her village, where she educated the youth of the village about digital literacy and provided G2C and B2C services. She also created a Facebook Business Page for her CSC to promote its various services. Vandana attended the Digital Beti training in 2020. With the help of digital marketing techniques that she learned through the program, Vandana leveraged her Facebook Page to provide services remotely to people in her community during COVID-19.

Due to these efforts, she received overwhelmingly positive response on her Facebook Page especially from women and youth who migrated back to their villages during pandemic. More than 80% of people digitally upskilled by Vandana were first time internet users. After leveraging Facebook tools, her annual income has increased by almost 16% despite the economic downturn due to the pandemic.

Hailing from an underdeveloped village with very little digital penetration, Kiran Saini set out to create a lasting difference in her community by providing access to digital services to each resident of her village. She began a Common Service Centre in order to provide these digital services. Through the CSC, she has helped more than 1000 people in her village.

Prior to her attending Digital Beti program, she mostly relied on simpler marketing tools such as word-of-mouth, banner ads etc. Upon Digital Beti training, she acquired skills such as digital marketing and implemented it to promote her CSC. Due to these measures, her page has gathered significant momentum since then.

Noticing that girls in her village were not even allowed to venture outside of the home, she also became vocal about digital empowerment and bridging the gender gap through Facebook. She regularly urges family members to realise the potential of their daughters and support them in their entrepreneurship journey. She also supports women in becoming entrepreneurs and gaining employment. She has become a beacon of hope for the women in her village in these trying times due to the lasting social impact she has created in her community.

Ms. Dhanalaksmi is a progressive woman with a passion to teach. However, once she realized the host of challenges to society on account of inadequate digital services in her town, she joined hands with CSC Academy to begin a Common Service Centre, providing digital services to people across her village.

Dhanalakshmi attended the Digital Beti training in 2020 and felt more empowered to do more for her community. She shortly created a Facebook Page for her CSC to increase its reach and expand to nearby villages.

Moreover, she spread awareness in her village on the advantages of Facebook in digital entrepreneurship and began closely helping local businesses expand and grow. She now offers web marketing and social media services to local microentrepreneurs, equipping them with an arsenal of marketing strategies and business development techniques that helps propel them to new heights. She has helped nearly 50 businesses boost their sales and customer retention. In this way, she has played a part in boosting the economy of her village in the midst of a pandemic.
